Grammar

The verb essere (to be) is one of the two most essential auxiliary verbs in Italian. It is highly irregular and must be memorized by heart.

Nationality & Origin: Sono italiano. Di dove sei? (I am Italian. Where are you from?)
Profession & Identity: Marco è un medico. (Marco is a doctor.)
Physical & Emotional States: Siamo stanchi ma felici. (We are tired but happy.)
Time & Date: È l'una. Sono le tre. (It is one o'clock. It is three o'clock.)

⚠️ Watch the Accent: Do not confuse è (with grave accent = he/she is) with e (without accent = and)!
