5. Condizionale Presente (The Present Conditional)

The Condizionale Presente corresponds to "would + verb" in English. It is used to express polite requests, wishes, advice, opinions, and hypothetical situations.

Conjugations

The stem for the conditional is exactly the same as the future tense stem! You just add different endings:

-ei, -esti, -ebbe, -emmo, -este, -ebbero
Example (Parlare): parlerei, parleresti, parlerebbe, parleremmo, parlereste, parlerebbero.

Common Uses

Polite requests: Vorrei un caffè (I would like a coffee).
Advice (using dovere or potere): Dovresti studiare di più (You should study more).
Wishes: Mi piacerebbe andare in Giappone (I would like to go to Japan).
