Giving commands becomes trickier when you add pronouns (direct, indirect, or combined). The placement depends entirely on whether the command is informal or formal.

Informal Commands (Tu, Noi, Voi)

Pronouns attach to the end of the verb to form one single word.

• Guarda! -> Guardalo! (Look at it!)
• Scrivi! -> Scrivimi! (Write to me!)
• Diamo! -> Diamoglielo! (Let\'s give it to him!)

Special Irregular Verbs (Tu form)

Five verbs have short, one-syllable commands for "tu": andare (va\'), dare (da\'), fare (fa\'), dire (di\'), stare (sta\'). When attaching a pronoun to these, the first consonant of the pronoun doubles (except for "gli").

• Fa\' + lo = Fallo! (Do it!)
• Da\' + mi = Dammi! (Give me!)
• Di\' + gli = Digli! (Tell him! - no doubling for gli)

Formal Commands (Lei, Loro)

In formal commands (which use the subjunctive form), pronouns precede the verb, just like in normal sentences.

• Lo guardi! (Look at it! - Formal)
• Mi scriva! (Write to me! - Formal)
