The Pluperfect Subjunctive

The Congiuntivo Trapassato expresses a past action that happened before a main clause in the past, or in the hypothetical clause (if-clause) of a Third Conditional sentence.

Formation

Use the Congiuntivo Imperfetto of avere (avessi, avesse...) or essere (fossi, fosse...) + past participle.
